1. Information We Collect

2. How We Use Your Information

3. Voice Data

Voice recordings are processed only to convert your speech into text and generate email drafts. We do not use your voice data for any purpose beyond improving the service experience unless explicitly stated.

4. Google User Data We Access

  • Basic profile (name, email address and profile picture): to create your Buttarfly account and sign you in.
  • Gmail messages and labels: to show your inbox, summarize emails and write replies that fit the conversation. When you ask, we also mark emails as read or unread, change their labels and move them to or from Trash.
  • Sending email: to send the emails you write or approve, including emails you schedule for later.
  • New mail notifications: we watch your inbox for new mail so the app stays up to date and can notify you.
  • Google Contacts and Other contacts: to suggest recipients while you write and to show sender names and photos.
  • Google Drive: to save an attachment to your Drive when you choose Upload to Drive. We can only access files Buttarfly creates or that you open with it.
  • We do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or let people read it, except with your permission, for security, or when the law requires it.

5. AI Processing

To write, reply to and summarize emails, we send the email content needed for that task, such as the thread you are replying to, together with your instructions to Anthropic (Claude). To turn your voice into text, we send your recording to OpenAI (Whisper). These providers process the data only to return the result to Buttarfly, and under their API terms they do not use it to train their models. We do not use Gmail data or any other Google user data to develop, improve or train generalized AI or machine learning models.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Your Google sign-in tokens are stored encrypted and kept until you delete your account.
  • Saved copies of inbox threads, which load your inbox faster, are deleted after 180 days.
  • Voice recordings are deleted once they have been turned into text, and are never kept for more than 2 hours.
  • Drafts, generated emails and email summaries are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
  • You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings, Delete Account. This permanently deletes your Buttarfly account and all data linked to it, including your Google sign-in tokens, email data, drafts and invoice records.
  • You can remove Buttarfly's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

7. Google API Services Limited Use

Buttarfly's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

8. Third-Party Services

Our platform may integrate with third-party services such as Gmail and analytics providers. These services may process certain information according to their own privacy policies.

9. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, misuse, or disclosure.

10. Your Rights

You may request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us.
